-------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is the fundraising requirement?

Shooters are asked to pledge that they will make a best efforts attempt to raise at least $500 in donations.

What happens if I don't raise the minimum?

We'll bet you can.  Once you start, you'll be surprised at how eager people are to donate to this cause.  In the event that you don't, your options are: (1) Choose to participate anyway. The money that you've already raised will still benefit Hoop-A-Paluza! (2) "Self pledge" on a credit card to cover the remaining amount.

Can my team fundraise as a group?

Yes.

Will donations made by check be posted on my Personal Page?

Yes, they will.  It will just take a little bit longer to post than credit card donations, which appear immediately.

Will there be a maximum number of shooters, or will you take as many people as you can get?

Our primary goal is creating and providing a safe, nurturing, and enjoyable environment for those participating in Hoop-A-Paluza.  While we will try to accommodate as many participants as possible, we will close registration as necessary to ensure the safety of the shooters and volunteers, and to make each participant's experience a fulfilling one.  Don't be left out - Register Today!

Can I form a team?

Yes!  Forming a team is a great way to fundraise and have fun with family or friends.  Simply follow the instructions on the registration page to enlist as a team rather than an individual participant.

Why does HAPI run its annual Hoop-A-Paluza event?

Hoop-A-Paluza was founded by Ed Zimmerman in the simple belief that local, grassroots fundraising can have a profound impact on the health and well-being of children and their families. Through HAPI's unique philanthropic strategy, which encourages the selection of a new recipient each year, HAPI's Board of Trustees also seeks to acquaint participants and donors with worthy local charities they may not have known previously.

What does HAPI do to keep costs down?

As the non-profit beneficiary of the event, HAPI will require strict cost controls and will approve and directly pay all expenses associated with the event.  No outside vendor has control over any of the finances.  This system enables the beneficiary and its board -  those responsible for granting the funds raised to children's health care organizations and research institutions -  to ensure that dollars are maximized and that fiscal accountability is of paramount importance.  As a public charity, HAPI is a steward of public funds and is accountable to its Board of Trustees, the organizations to whom it gives grants, and the giving public, so it is essential that every penny be spent with the utmost care.

Exactly where does the money go, and who makes those decisions?

HAPI's nine-member Board of Trustees selects the annual recipient(s) of its grant monies based on a comprehensive proposal process. Click here to read about the structure of Proposals, Limitations on Grantmaking, and more.
